"Southern Amazonian Marmosets" is the name given to a group of 14 species of small and charismatic primates that mainly occur in the southern part of the Brazilian Amazon. Nowadays, the forests where these marmosets are found are being rapidly and drastically destroyed: in fact, they live in the most endangered part of the Amazon, called Arc of Deforestation. At same time, the SAM are among the less-known primates of Brazil: their conservation status is poorly understood and currently there is no conservation response to protect their populations. As we know so little about the SAM, even species we never saw might be facing critical impacts that can lead them to the brink of extinction.
For these reasons, we decided to dedicate ourselves to the creation and establishment of a work plan for the protection of the Southern Amazonian Marmosets and the forests where they live. This is the mission of our team of conservation biologists, who live in distinct parts of Brazil, and has the fundamental support of the Conservation Leadership Programme and several other institutions such as Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, Universidade Federal do Amazonas, O Nicho Podcast, and Centro de Pesquisa e Conservação de Primatas Brasileiros. We need You!
Stay connected to our project and find out what means to protect species from extinction! Spread the word and help us to make people in each Earth’s corner to know the Marmosets of south Amazonia and the threats they are facing due to predatory extraction and waste of natural resources.
